A Shift In Politics?

I admit, I have never been one for politics- especially after the past two elections. Although during the reign of terror Bush has had during his presidency, I became increasingly interested in wondering how America would bounce back (as well as in the Daily Show and the Colbert Report). I knew after a period like that where people were spending a lot of time focusing on what wasn't wanted- what was wanted would come thru like a tidal wave as soon as critical mass started hoping a little bit.
I have been following both primaries since before they started- totally captivated by the cast of characters this time around. In my eyes, this looks to me as one of the most definitive moments in our history. Not that we haven't seen anything like this before in this country, but this is perhaps one of those phases I haven't yet lived thru. ;)
In the beginning, I was a Ron Paul fan. I love that guy. But as the race went on, Barack Obama started to gain more and more of my support as I saw him overcoming limitations I thought he had. ;) I thought Hillary Clinton was a joke at first, but from watching her run she has gained my respect, and I think she would have made a great President.
Last night, after watching Obama's victory speech- my knowing that America was going to go thru a sort of silent revolution was further confirmed. The thunderous applause was unlike anything I have ever seen before in politics as Obama declared himself the victor. I don't really believe a President can do that much to change the country- but I think if someone who is that respected with that much public attention can inspire and empower (sound familiar?) people on all levels of change- giving them a sense of hope, and a sense that their efforts aren't being wasted- we have a perfect formula for change.
I feel deeply for Hillary Clinton after studying so much of her life thru this entire process, and as Obama said in his speech- no matter what- Hillary is already a central reason so much change is happening right now, and I know as well that she will be central to seeing thru things like universal health-care, and other improvements to come. But Obama just seems to be the perfect fit for the Presidency.
Will be weird actually having a face I will actually be proud of to have representing this country globally- not sure I have ever felt that way about a former President since I was born, in 1980. ;) Maybe we will actually start to get some international respect back.
Speaking to that point- I think it is funny how the general perception of the international community during the war in iraq, and the bush administration was that the American people were too busy buying things, no more revolts like in the 60s. As if our hearts were gone, and we were heading for a 1984 type era. Our unwillingness to be violent about it, or to cause a ruckus as we did decades ago was looked down upon. Fascinating. But I never really saw that. I can understand they probably only know what they see on the news- but I think Americans were learning about the power of intention, and deepening their spirituality during the 90's, and early 2000's. I think so many people began holding a positive vision for this country that evidence of that hope and that vision has been showing itself for a while now, and now positive change is really happening.
There is definitely going to be resistance from traditionalist over many topics to come, but I see it as a done deal. Can't fight a higher vibration with a lower one. Done-deal. Prepare to party on, dudes. ;)
Having lived thru the end of what I have seen as a spiritual revolution (also a done deal, even before this change in politics- in fact, this spiritual revolution is what is at the cause of these changes in other areas), I now see a very similar pattern happening in many other areas of life on earth, and life in America.
My wife, April, who while watching Obama's victory speech said, "GOD I hope this guy doesn't get assassinated. This guy sounds like someone who would be assassinated." She said it partially in jest- but that is not the first time I have heard something like that. When I was reading Conversations With God, by Neale Donald Walsch- I often thought- this guy is going to be killed. lol His conversation with God lead to millions and millions of people questioning the religion they were brought up on- shattering many limiting beliefs that people were feeling bad about. There have been hundreds of spiritual teachers who, if they were popular a few decades ago, may not have reached the mainstream. ;)
But is it actually safe now to feel and be free? Are people in America actually beginning to embrace some of the values they have been reading for the past 20 years? Obviously, yes. And I think we are all in for a really fun ride- as I know America isn't the only country with positive change happening.
