What is true leadership?

Posted on Nov 8th, 2007 by dave : Good Vibes dave
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for November 08, 2007:

True leadership is seeing people where they want to be, not where you want them to be.  It is simply pointing out a person's true desire, and allowing them to become it.

Life At The Gaiam Offices and Our Boulder Road Trip

Posted on Nov 13th, 2007 by dave : Good Vibes dave
Andromedas_s__padre_by_djcascade
Just thought I would take the last 15 minutes of my day here to tell you guys about life at the Gaiam offices. :)  It has been quite the joyride for me-- and I know many of you are asking for pictures-- and I have every intention of getting some up here.  I actually want to get a video camera so I can do a little montage of life in Boulder, as well as life at Gaiam.

Well, to start-- it was crazy, but just a week and a half ago, my wife April and I (and Toby),  drove 33 hours from our home in Voorhees, NJ (20 mins outside Philly) to Boulder, Colorado.  I was nothing but excited for this new chapter in my life, and have just been riding the wave.  We just slept on and off, and took breaks to eat here and there-- but we left at 2am one night, and arrived in Boulder around rush hour the next day.  Driving into Boulder was beautiful.  After a lot of cornfields-- driving up a giant hill, and seeing the flatirons, the rockies, and boulder-- all in one awe inspiring moment took my breath away.  Matthew had picked up the key to my condo, and left it under his doormat- so that was stop number one.  Stop number two was to our condo floor so we could both pass out-- but to our surprise we only slept around four hours, due to excitement. :)  Toby was perfect the entire ride-- sleeping almost the entire way curled up in a ball.

Our shipment had a slight delay, but we got it on Saturday-- had everything i absolutely needed packed in the car, miraculously- that wasn't planned- including clothes and an air mattress- so the wait wasn't too too bad.

Had a few days to myself to explore the mountains with my dog, and to see some great music with Kelly.  Really just great to be out and about in Boulder- just a beautiful clean little  city.  Good people, good food- what else could you want? ;)

First day at the Gaiam offices was last Wednesday.  I don't consider myself a corporate person by any means, but the offices here are very free and good feeling.  I had a warm welcome as soon as I walked in- and that warmth hasn't stopped since then.  On that note- I want to introduce you to a few zaadzsters who are also my co-workers- all of whom sit right next to me. ;)

Please give a warm virtual hug to, Manny, Joe, Mark, and Jennifer.  There are many others who I  have shared many laughs with since I got here last week- and will be sure to include them in future posts once I find their zaadz profiles. ;)  These four here are incredible people, and I will let their profiles speak for themselves-- you may even have them on your friends list already!

Some of my favorite things about working here are the plants (tons of them!), the giant crystals (like... really big...gotta get a picture up), the lunches at white wave cafe (you know, the people who make silk soy milk, horizons organic dairy products...)- they serve gourmet organic meals down the street to Gaiam employees for like, 5-6 bucks.  Sick. ;)  Free yoga and pilates classes are available every week- AND there is a starbucks machine which also dispenses some very yummy hot cocoa. ;)

Also infusing the Gaiam offices are Siona, David, Chris, and Kelly-- needless to say it is quite the party.  :)

Is there a such thing as having *too much* fun?  Because I think that may be happening right now.  I just hope what they say about laughing being *good* for your health is true. ;)  Pinch me. ;)

Letting go.

Ever read Richard Bach?  One of my favorite authors.  He is one of those people that 'got it' way before most even knew what 'getting it' was. ;)  Was just surfing the net and came across this gem.  Wanted to share:

------------------------------------
Once there lived a village of creatures along the bottom of a great crystal river.

The current of the river swept silently over them all - young and old, rich and poor, good and evil, the current going its own way, knowing only its own crystal self.

Each creature in its own manner clung tightly to the twigs and rocks at the river bottom, for clinging was their way of life, and resisting the current what each had learned from birth.

But one creature said at last, 'I am tired of clinging. Though I cannot see it with my eyes, I trust that the current knows where it is going. I shall let go, and let it take me where it will. Clinging, I shall die of boredom.'

The other creatures laughed and said, 'Fool! Let go, and that current you worship will throw you tumbled and smashed across the rocks, and you shall die quicker than boredom!'

But the one heeded them not, and taking a breath did let go, and at once was tumbled and smashed by the current across the rocks.

Yet in time, as the creature refused to cling again, the current lifted him free from the bottom, and he was bruised and hurt no more.

And the creatures downstream, to whom he was a stranger, cried, 'See a miracle! A creature like ourselves, yet he flies! See the Messiah, come to save us all!'

And the one carried in the current said, 'I am no more Messiah than you. The river delights to lift us free, if only we dare let go. Our true work is this voyage, this adventure.'

But they cried the more, 'Saviour!' all the while clinging to the rocks, and when they looked again he was gone, and they were left alone making legends of a Saviour.
----------------------------------------

How profound is this?  Especially after reading and listening to Abraham for so long- I can appreciate this little story even more.  Abraham teaches there is only a stream of well-being that flows.  No source of darkness or evil, only a source of light- and what determines whether or not our lives are blissfull or less than desirable is whether we are resisting or allowing that stream to flow.

I was listening to the CD that came in the back of Ester, Jerry, and Abraham's latest, "The Astonishing Power of Emotions"- and they described how even before we came into our physical bodies, that stream was already flowing.  That stream of well-being is so dominant, that anything we do in this one lifetime that could be considered detrimental really is not that bad at all-- all it is is a temporary resistance of the stream- and the moment we let go- we see improvement in our lives (and we feel a lot of relief- that goes hand in hand).

Abraham also uses 'upstream and downstream' analogies- saying our emotional response is given to us in response to our thoughts on any given subject.  They say our first priority should be finding relief and feeling good- as that is an indicator we are going with this stream of well-being, while any form of negative emotion is our indication that we are resisting the stream.  They also note that everything we want is downstream- while nothing we want is ever upstream.

Beautiful stuff. :)

Who, on the whole, do you find happier: children or adults?

Posted on Nov 16th, 2007 by dave : Good Vibes dave
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for November 16, 2007:

Children!  Isn't that obvious?  They are resistance free, most of the time- and are so full of fun and joy- I really love being around kids.  They are the teachers here- and I hope more and more adults realize that.

The thing with most adults is, they have gathered so many points of resistance from wanting things, and resisting, wanting, and resisting, wanting and resisting...  Kids let energy flow so easily, they understand their worthiness to have anything they can imagine, and they have no resistance to the things many adults may have wanted for years and years.

Driving to Boulder from New Jersey- what a crazy ride that was.  And I am not one to complain, but I have to say after seeing the first snow since I've been in Boulder-- the Turnpike puts the 36 to shame in terms of how well they are plowed.  Colorado needs to step it up a notch. ;)

Our New Seed System- Sowing The Seeds Of Love

Posted on Nov 21st, 2007 by dave : Good Vibes dave
I figured of all of the days to talk about our new seed system-- today would be one of the best opportunities, since it is Dave Appreciation Day and all.  What's that?  Thanksgiving?  Whatever. ;)

Anyway, I couldn't resist at the opportunity to jump in and talk about the seed system a bit.  Personally, I have been very excited about this- as I think comments are nice, but with this, we have a way to show our appreciation to a fellow member or a fellow members work.  To me, this makes perfect sense.  First off- there is an immediate shift in intention when you have a seed bank, and you are looking for things to appreciate so you can give them away.  Isn't that a great perspective to have?  A great stance to be in while viewing content on Zaadz?  I think so, and I think it is the ideal perspective to hold.  Not only on Zaadz, but in our day to day lives.

Jake is a brilliant guy, and he has built a brilliant system. :)

So, doesn't it make sense that the content that is getting attention from those who are seeking appreciation rise to the top?  It is really a brilliant system of letting the content that is of the highest vibration to be the most visible, which I think is absolutely commendable, given most media promotes material that is of a much lower vibration.  If our goal is to change the world, we have to acknowledge energy flow as a prime component to that-- and with this, the good energy will easily rise to the top if it is used as intended- raising the vibration of the site with more people giving their attention to that content, and of the planet.

Just beautiful. :)

Synchronicity

Posted on Nov 24th, 2007 by dave : Good Vibes dave
Very glad to be waking up on this lazy Saturday afternoon.  I've been watching the TV series called Lost-- I am sure many of you are shocked that I have only started watching it now.  I am on disc 5 of the 6 disc set for Season 1, and I am totally in love with this show.  Manny Otto recommended it to me, as he is 'into'  (even worked with the Joseph Campbell foundation), and even runs a very cool seminar called Mythos For Creatives-- Lost is definitely a mythology.  Manny tells me that the guy who wrote it is Joseph Campbell influenced-- which is what made me intrigued in the first place.

So while watching Lost, it has really got me focused on synchronicity and signs.  I remember pondering these things last time I read the Alchemist.  For me, it is rare that I see a sign or experience some synchronictic event without some sort of intuitive notice, or gut feeling before it happens.  To give a better idea of what I am speaking about, I thought I would share an example that you may be interested in.

Four weeks before I heard any news of the gaiam offer, i opened up my laptop and found a desktop image of a dandelion sticking straight up- fully grown- as if the wind was going to blow, and the seeds would be scattered-- but not quite yet.  Behind it was a beautiful red sky, mountains in the background, and the sun setting.  The sun lined up perfectly with the dandelion-- so the total circumference of the sun matched the circumference of the dandelion-- so it was shining right thru it.

This is the closest thing I could find on google images--hardly does it justice, but you get the idea-- checked deviant art, but I can't find the image anywhere, since my desktop background was changed again (friends using the computer often put pretty desktop images up for me).

I already knew I had a feeling that there was a big change right around the corner-- it was a feeling of exhilaration-- like when the plane is taking off from the ground-- you feel that momentum at first, but once you get some altitude, it becomes peaceful and serene.  Anywho, I had an internal asking going on wanting more clarification and details, and 3 days later, this desktop background is on my computer.

I had already expressed to my wife, April, that I felt the feeling was related to Zaadz.. so when I saw the dandelion, that was the first thought I had-- Zaadz?  Sunsetting?  It didn't look like a bad ending, because the sun was shining so beautifully thru the dandelion-- it looked like transformation, or the giving of light and resource.

Weeks went by before I heard the news-- but all I felt was more exileration- because I knew at the heart of all of this was a very good positive feeling, and knew nothing bad would come of it.  Only good.

But how interesting to see that picture on my laptop.  With so much talk of non physical energy, and physical energy (which we can all see very well)-- I wonder how long it will take the world to realize there is non physical energy in all that is physical.  I think Synchronicity is one of these gems that will lead to that understanding for the whole.

:)

Tagged- 7 things you may not know about me

Posted on Nov 28th, 2007 by dave : Good Vibes dave
Darina got me. ;)  I am a pretty transparent person, but I will do my best here.

Without further adieu-

1.  I enjoy putting dinosaur toys in odd and funny positions.

2.  I believe the extintion of the dinosaurs is the worst tragedy on the planet.  Never forget the sacrifice they made...

3.  My favorite pop tarts are currently cherry frosted.

4.  I am addicted to Lost right now.  On Season 2.

5.  No matter how hard I try, I lose an average of 1 and a half socks every 4th day.

6.  I still have giggle fits.

7.  I am hoping that when I die, I can die in a really humorous way- so when people think of my death, they just start laughing.
