Experiencing What You Don’t Want

Posted on Jul 6th, 2006 by dave : Good Vibes dave

Have you ever experienced something you did not want to?  This is one of the most common questions I get from people just discovering they are creating their own reality.  If we are creators of our own reality, why would we ever experience something we do not want to experience?

“Don't let any place that you are standing frighten you. All it is, is a byproduct of some Energy alignment, which only gives you stronger clarity about what you want — and, most importantly, greater sensitivity about whether you're in a receiving mode or locked off of it.” –Abraham-Hicks

In an earlier post, I commented on monitoring our dreams, and how when we dream about something unpleasant, it is actually a good opportunity to say, “Well, I definitely do not want that! What is it that I do want??”  But sometimes we get stuck in a rut, and go on feeling miserable without really doing anything about it.  And when we do that, law of attraction kicks in and delivers even more of what we don’t want, since we are spending our time focusing on that.  When in reality, we are just here to launch preferences, and feel good about them for the fun of it, most people incorporate a sense of judgment, and right and wrongness into all of this.  So if we feel bad, it is “wrong”, and then they become self critical.  “If I am the deliberate creator of my reality, how could I do this to myself?!”, we sometimes say.  Of course that just helps us down the path of what is not wanted.  And people going down that path look at feel good vibes and say, “I cannot feel appreciation and love, look at everything that is going wrong!”  And they are right.  It is simply impossible to feel love and appreciation, let alone unconditional love (love, regardless of conditions) when we are being self critical.  But once we practice removing the judgment of it all for a week or so, and see it as simply preferences, and realize in any moment we can begin moving in one way or the other—things look a little bit different.  Because it is going to take time to get to that place of love and appreciation.  Not too long, could be 10 minutes, could be 30, but once we begin moving in the direction of appreciation on any given subject, that is enough.  Let that be enough.  Because then you have made peace with where you are, so you can begin moving in that direction.

This is something I would get stuck on all of the time.  For example, on the subject of money, there I was, totally broke, in debt, in a condition that I didn’t want to be in.  I spent most of my focused thought being self critical.  But once I realized I could begin moving in the direction of appreciation for money no matter where I was.  And that is the trick.  That is the key.  How can I feel appreciation for the abundance of money I have from where I stand.  And once you achieve that, the flood gates are open.  Things happen, miracles occur, and you will be spending many more moments laughing at the silly and unpredictable ways money begins to flow into your experience.  Ideas come to you, people call you, money comes in the mail, etc.  And this works for any subject.  That is the big question:  How can I feel appreciation for _______ right now?  Well, turn the ship around.  Think thoughts in the desired direction.  Realize you are experiencing what you do not want so it would give birth to a strong desire of what you do want.  And when you get that, you realize that it is all good.

Just as your inner being will give you a dream that causes you to wake up in a cold sweat to help you focus on what you DO want—life will deliver experiences that match your vibration, and there is truly nothing to fear.  It is simply an opportunity to face the other direction.  Leave it at that, and let that be enough.

Totally, Di!  Leprechauns rock!  Also I, this post, you, and you guys! ;) lol

It is amazing how simple it is once we can become a little bit more gentle with ourselves and realize fun and personal preference are the most important aspects of this journey.

It is funny no other part of life has this problem.  The one celled ameba (as abraham loves to talk about), birds, fish, squirels, lions, tigers, bears (oh my!) have no problems launching preferences, and feeling good and worthy about us.  It is only us humans who say, “who am I to want that?!” lol Pretty funny.  Have a light and funny day everyone. =)

Great post, Dave!…

Bill Harris likes to say that we get what we focus on. If we focus our energy on NOT gaining weight, or NOT saying something stupid, or NOT getting angry…then our brains are registering simply the “gain weight”, the “say something stupid” and the “get angry” because brains don't do negatives very well.

So the saying goes, “you get what you focus on”. Bill Harris founded Centerpointe.
