Going to bed happy, Waking up happy.
I remember being a teenager and waking up in the morning with a thought, "not again..." And while it is humorous to look back at, I recently had a strong desire to know why even in present day, with my new found knowledge of life, would I wake up cranky? The answer came in the form of an Abraham seminar. They said when we sleep we are aligning ourselves with our source which as you know is absolute joy, love, knowledge, appreciation... So sometimes the contrast between that and perhaps a thought we have when we wake up in the morning is soooo much of a stretch from what we really are that our emotional guidance system is letting us know. This is of course a very unpleasant, cranky feeling. =)
I have told myself for years that I am not a morning person. I had to really release any beliefs I had about the morning, since I was choosing to wake up early.
Before bed, I remind myself of all the good things that happened that day. I remind myself that life is getting better and better, and that all of my wishes, dreams, and desires are unfolding each and everyday, and point out to myself those instances that brought me closer to my dreams that day.
I intend a peaceful night’s sleep, and intend to remember my dreams in the morning so I can gather any necessary and important information.
Then upon awakening, I let myself wake up a little bit more slowly than I did before. I lie in bed and find something to appreciate right away. I find a reason to laugh, or I do something to make my wife laugh. Which as you can imagine can be pretty goofy upon waking up-- and usually makes me laugh myself right out of bed.
Then from that point on, I am constantly looking for things to appreciate, to laugh about, to make my day better and better. This usually consists of a nice walk outside with my dog, some Black Eyed Peas, and some serious head bobbing action in the car while I drive my wife to work. =)
What an enjoyable cycle to immerse myself into! =)
A lot of it is just realizing that wherever you are, it's ok. And it is about allowing your self to be in harmony with the moment.

Help

Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. I feel like I’m repeating myself here. :)
I’m not sure if you’ve ever listened to Tony Robbins describe his Hour of Power but it’s somewhat similar to what you’re doing. He describes it on Get The Edge. Well worth listening to.
I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about my morning routine lately as well. It makes a huge difference!
Yes! Such a great idea… a simple practice… and extraordinarily effective! I must remind myself and get “into the habit” of reflecting on the happiness before I go to sleep… makes the dreams sweeter too!
Great post! Thanks for the reminder!
There was a time when I was in a 24 hr anxiety attack…….7 days a week……
Now they are few and far between……..but still……….I want rid of them……..I want to live like your above blog………..
What a cool practice! Blackalicious has this line in one of their songs: “You can choose to say good morning God:), or good god morning:( ”
That you to everyone for the supportive comments! It really makes my day when I get them. =)
Jon: Great recommendation. Tony Robbins is great, I love his enthusiasm. I will have to check out that book, I will add it to the queue. ;)
Ms C: The pleasure is mine. =) Thank you.
Hart: That picture you have in your head of me bobbing my head to the peas is something that happens like 6 times a day lol. I loooooove the black eyed peas. =) About April, it is undoubtedly easier for her to appreciate her morning when I am doing everything i can think of to make mine better. =) We have a great amount of appreciation for each other. GOOD JOB on the anxiety!!!! VERY amazing!!! There is no doubt you will help many with these sorts of things.
I made a choice not too long ago to empty out my box of worries. There is nothing I am worried about right now. I am perfectly content and happy. And it feels GREAT to say that! Everything i want comes to me, everything I want today is coming to me, I expect good things to happen to me. Feeling good has become the most important thing in my life. It is the ultimate measuring stick in my life. =) Kudos to you for having such a determination to feel good that you overcame your anxiety. Truly remarkable. =)
Jessica: Blackalicous is da bomb. =) “Makes ya feel that way” is one of my fav songs. World of vibrations is pretty neat too off his new album, eh? Nice quote! Thanks for sharing.
It is amazing how our vibes flow on to the next person……..there is something to be said about “morale”
Go Team!
Definitely. Great observation Hart. When we are feeling enthusiastic and passionate, this means we are in alignment with our desire. Then that’s when things really start to move, and people around us see that and it becomes infectious. They say, “look at that person with everything they want flowing into their experience, and they just seem so happy!”. And they begin to wonder what it is that made them that way. And that “something” is: a choice to have a desire, and the guts to believe it is not only possible, but inevitable.
Go team harticulate! =)
